I became involved during a major renovation aimed at attracting a greater global and commercial market for their technologically advanced aerospace and industrial products. The project began with a new customer reception center for the international corporate headquarters located in Windsor Locks, Connecticut [A].
Their corporate identity is echoed in the art program which expanded to include the executive suite. The elements in a dimensional ceramic wall relief form a flight pattern directing visitors up the staircase to the conference room. The active surface marks enhance the sense of movement. [B] The highly textured irregular surface of another wall relief suggests moon rocks brought back from space.
Two photo murals in the executive area reinforce their proud history of innovation in flight and honor their New England heritage. Made up of a grid of SX70 Polaroid prints [C,D], one piece focuses on the original propeller that initiated the company while the accompanying collage acknowledges their contribution to space travel. The company has since become Hamilton Sundstrand.
